Thirteen Moons on Turtle's Back

We have been working on quality of life being:  a sense of safety, security, comfort, health and happiness.  Little learners have learned to distinguish between needs and wants to meet a certain quality of life.  Today we looked at "The Bedrooms of Children Around the World" discussing as we went if the needs and wants of those children were being meet.  We were pretty sure that our own bedrooms look pretty good in comparison to some children around the world.

We have been working on using the author's words to put pictures in our head while reading/listening to story.  We have used the First Nations book, "Thirteen Moons on Turtle's Back" for its descriptive language to practise our skills.  Students each had a copy of one of the poems from the book that they first highlighted the picture words then talked to a partner about what they saw in their heads.  They then took a piece of the turtle's back and drew the picture that was in their head.  We put all the puzzle pieces together on the turtle and then looked at the pictures the author had in the book.

Our finished turtle!

We are so proud - we kind of like our art work better than the books!
