Ask your student about the acronym F.A.S.T.
We had a presentation from the Heart and Stroke Foundation and students have brought home a pledge envelope to raise money in the next two weeks. We have set a school goal of $7000.00.
Recorders arrived in the classroom late this afternoon and are waiting on desks for music tomorrow.
As we continue to identify different types of literature we had a look today at historical fiction. We read "Henry's Freedom Box" discussing the time of slavery and the Underground Railroad. We then worked together to describe Henry in terms of who he was. Students felt he was brave because he put himself in a box for 27 hours and mailed himself to freedom. We thought he was a risk taker for wanting to be free at any cost. We then wrote in our reading journals about taking risks ourselves and seeking freedom.
"How does access to school affect quality of life?" is the question we are attempting to answer as we watch the video series Going to School In India. Today we saw that some girls only go to school at night because they have to work during the day for their families. This led to a discussion about the importance of an education to get a better job as an adult.
